Family Recipe

Aunt Ruby's Pound Cake

Cream 1/2 lb butter and 1/2 c shortening
Add 3 C sugar and then 5 eggs and 1T vanilla
In a separate bowl combine 3C flour, 1/2t baking powder and 1/2t salt (add 4-6T of cocoa for chocolate pound cake)
Add dry ingredients alternately with 1C sweet milk ending with dry ingredients
Bake in bundt pan for 40-60 minutes at 325.

This is a family recipe from Matt's great Aunt Ruby. I found this in Matt's mom's stash of favorites and made it a few months ago. I didn't have the chance to meet Aunt Ruby, but if I did-I would have wanted to watch her bake this and of course eat it too! Speaking of eating, I need to check my cake in the oven now!

MHR Birthday Bash

You know how much I love KatyLin's blog at the Great Adventure, and this week she is having a MHR birthday bash. Check her out and if you aren't already participating, now is a great time to start!

Sand and Water

I debated on whether or not to purchase one of these for Sarabeth. She loves being outside, but with such a small yard, we don't have room for much to entertain her. I know she loves dirt and water so I splurged and bought this table from Wal-Mart. I bought a bag of sand from Home Depot and filled up the other side with water and she was all set. It even came with an umbrella to shade her from the sun.

Of course she shoveled the sand into the water part and then she let the plug out of the water so it all drained out onto the patio. Yesterday she was playin outside with it and she shoveled a scoop of sand onto the living room floor. Nice!

Rowdy wanted in on the action too, but she was quick to tell him NO!

After she was done, Roscoe made himself at home on the cool sand. I guess I've got my money's worth now!

Pa Comes To Visit

Matt's parents were in town last weekend for a tribute to Don, Matt's dad. Don coached football for over 30 years and was the head football coach at Lamar Consolidated for most of that time! So his coaching staff tricked him into coming to what Don thought was a retirement party for another coach. It ended up being a party honoring Don and all of his coaching staff from years past was there to share their stories. I didn't get a chance to go, but Matt was there with his dad and they had a ball! Meanwhile, Sarabeth and I hung out in Rosenberg with Betty and Aunt Phyllis and Peggy. Aunt Phyllis collects bears so Sarabeth took her time playing with each one!

Hangin' out with Pa and bear

We spent some time out in the yard playing ball. The weather was actually very nice out.

My precious girl, she's getting too big!

Batter Up!

We finished the day with dinner and then headed home. Matt's parents joined us for church on Sunday and had the chance to see Matt teach our Life Group class. I know it made them proud to see Matt learning so much about God's word and sharing it with others. We had a great time Ma and Pa! We will see you again this weekend!
